Breaking ground in April 2026, Via Care will build a state-of-the-art healthcare campus to serve thousands of East Los Angeles residents who urgently need access to comprehensive and dependable healthcare. The project will be built in two phases, replacing the small existing clinic on the property. Each phase will result in a full-service clinic to ensure no interruption in patient services.

The Via Care Health & Wellness Center will comprise 32,174 square-feet of space that will include medical, dental, behavioral health and supportive services, including case management, a retail pharmacy, specialty care, and after hours urgent care. Over 37,000 patients will be seen annually. A project of this scale has not been built in this community in decades. Via Care is proud to own the property, ensuring a permanent healthcare legacy for East L.A.

The Via Care Health & Wellness Center will include all of Via Care’s core services and will add new and critical services that the community desperately needs.

Many families in East Los Angeles face barriers to timely care, including limited preventive and specialty care options and a heavy reliance on emergency rooms for non-emergency needs.

The Via Care Health & Wellness Center addresses these gaps by bringing primary care, dental, behavioral health, specialty care, urgent care, and supportive services together in one location. This coordinated care model improves access, supports prevention and long-term health, and allows patients to receive care close to home in a welcoming, community-centered setting.

The center will serve patients and families of all ages, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay, helping strengthen health outcomes across East Los Angeles.

Urgent Care as a Focus

In addition to life-saving primary medical, dental and behavioral health care services, a critical component of the new health center will be the first-of-its-kind community urgent care. There are few urgent care facilities in the area, causing local emergency rooms to be severely overcrowded. The Via Care Community Urgent Care will alleviate the clinical and financial burden on emergency rooms and create a point-of-access where the community feels safe and welcome. It will be open from 10:00am – 8:00 pm Monday through Saturday, and Sundays as demand permits. We estimate that the urgent care will see more than 23,040 patients per year through over 46,080 visits annually.

In 2020, 40.9% of hospital admissions in East Los Angeles were for non-emergency issues, compared to 31.6% in L.A. County and 32.8% in CA (OSHPD, Healthcare Analytics Branch, 2020). The Via Care Community Urgent Care will divert non-emergency cases, improving quality and reducing costs. The urgent care will be accessible to all community members regardless of inability to pay.
