Starting July 1, 2026, Medi-Cal dental coverage will change for some adult members. If you’re a Medi-Cal patient, it’s important to understand how these changes may affect you and your family. The good news? Our enrollment team is here to help you navigate these changes and find the best solution for your dental care needs.
What’s Changing?
Effective July 1, 2026, some adult Medi-Cal members will experience a change in their regular dental coverage. Specifically, adults 19 and older who do not qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal under federal rules will no longer have regular dental benefits. However, emergency dental care will still be available to all Medi-Cal members.
Who Is Affected?
The coverage change only impacts:
- Adults 19 and older who do not qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal under federal eligibility rules
Who Keeps Full Dental Benefits?
Good news—if you fall into any of these categories, you will keep your full dental benefits:
- Pregnant women and those within one year after pregnancy
- Young adults under 19
- Young adults under 26 who were in foster care at age 18
If you’re unsure about your eligibility, our team can help clarify your specific situation.
Emergency Dental Care Is Still Available
Even if your regular coverage changes, you’ll still have access to emergency dental services. Emergency dental care covers:
- Severe tooth pain or swelling
- Tooth or jaw injuries
- Dental infections
- Broken or knocked-out teeth
- Painful orthodontic wires
If you experience any of these emergencies, don’t delay and seek care immediately.
